The Deltis 230 MO Docking Turbo is an expansion dock that was produced by Olympus Corporation for Pippin consoles.[1]

Hardware[]

The dock features an Olympus MOS330E TURBO III drive with the ability to read and write to 128MB or 230MB magneto-optical (MO) disks.[2][3] Disks are read at 4,200 RPM with a continuous data rate of up to 5.3MB per second, aided by an efficient caching algorithm.[1] The drive is connected to the Pippin console's X-PCI expansion slot through a small adapter board containing a Symbios Logic 53C810 SCSI controller.[4] Early Pippin Atmark consoles need a ROM update to revision 1.2 or later to use this dock.[5]

Release[]

The Deltis 230 MO Docking Turbo was first announced by Olympus on September 24, 1996.[2] It was released in Japan on November 15, 1996 with a list price of JP¥ 54,800.[1] However, not all Pippin titles, notably Internet Kit (even version 2.0), support the dock's MO drive; saving internet downloads to floppy disks with the Pippin Atmark Floppy Unit was recommended instead.[6]
