The Pippin Atmark-EX is a prototype that was shown by Bandai Digital Entertainment at Macworld Expo Tokyo '97.[1][2] However, it was never released for sale.
Hardware[]
Featuring a footprint similar to a Macintosh desktop unit, the Pippin Atmark-EX was designed with 8MB of RAM, expandable to 40MB with standard 72-pin EDO-DRAM modules instead of proprietary Pippin memory modules. The CD-ROM drive was upgraded to 8x speed. The chassis could handle a half-sized PCI card internally.[3] The displayed unit contained a PCI-based ethernet interface, a built-in analog modem, a wireless infrared (IR) Apple Desktop Bus, and a DB-25 SCSI port. The list price was estimated to be about JP¥ 100,000.[2]
