Pippin @World & Atmark Wiki

The Pippin Atmark-PD is a prototype that was shown by Bandai Digital Entertainment at Macworld Expo Tokyo '97.[1][2] However, it was never released for sale.

Hardware[]

Designed as a direct replacement of the original Pippin Atmark console in a similar form factor, it would have included an internal Phase-change Dual (PD) drive that could read a standard CD-ROM disc, as well as read/write to a PD disk with 600 MB of rewritable optical storage capacity. A DB-25 SCSI port on the back panel would have allowed additional devices to be connected, or for the console itself to function as an external PD drive for a computer. The rest of the specifications were mostly unchanged from the original Atmark.[3] Pricing was not determined; the cost of a standalone PD drive was about JP¥ 60,000-70,000 at the time.[2]
