The Pippin ethernet dock is an expansion dock with an ethernet port that had been announced for Pippin consoles.[1]
Hardware[]
The dock included an RJ45 network port that was compatible with the 10BASE-T ethernet standard, capable of speeds up to 10 Mbps.[1]
Release[]
Bandai Digital Entertainment announced the dock on May 21, 1997 for an expected mid-year release for Pippin users in the United States at a list price of US$139.[1] It would have been available in minimum lots of 100 for corporate customers, or $695 in a bundle with the Pippin @WORLD console.[2] However, it is not known to have been released and most Pippin users were connecting to the internet through modems that were included with the console.[3] Bandai had hoped that ethernet functionality would attract corporate users in vertical markets to the Pippin @WORLD console.[1]
Rare white versions of the dock for the Pippin Atmark console were spotted in Japan.[4] Some prototypes contained a combination of a floppy drive in the front and a 10BASE-T ethernet port in the back.[5]
